Physical Exercise & Sport

There are 10 basic warm up exercises in IGL mapped into the 10 fundamental Infographs. These represent an introduction to physical exercise and sport. Students are taught to identify a particular exercise with a specific Infograph. The IGL system supports and encourages children to exercise and keep fit by spending at least 5 minutes on each infograph activity, daily. Daily exercise performing the ten routines will be encouraged as a life style choice, but also a learning exercise, (no pun intended). Students are taught to identify each fundamental infograph with a physical activity. Physical exercise forms an important layer linked to memory and cognitive ability. Physical education and Sport will go on to become full subjects for the students who specialize in this area.

The 10 exercises are selected to be able to be performed in a classroom setting where students stand beside desks and chairs. They should also be performed in an open space before engaging in sporting activity. When students are shown an infogram they should be able to easily identify the physical exercise associated with it. It is hoped that by inculcating a need to spend time on exercise every day and map this activity into the academic linguistic process students will have a simple exercise routine they know to perform they can carry for the rest of their lives and that they can perform in unison with any person that has followed an IGL programme. Staying fit and healthy is considered an important area for children to be inspired in and IGL is positioned to provide this support to learners in the expectation it will help them lead a healthier and more active life.

The ten basic exercises can be used to communicate any idea in IGL. This adds richness to the curriculum and each layers reinforces the subject matter being taught that eventually becomes second nature to each student.

It should also be noted that students that are particularly gifted in sport, through IGL, now have a tool they can use to convert their enhanced ability in sport into actual academic information. Their ability to conceptualise movement can now be used as a layer with which to actually process knowledge and information since the IGL system can use this movement to convey any idea in language which will inevitably form content students are expected to cover in any academic subject. They can use their gift, or area of prowess to enhance not only their performance on the field, but also their competence in the classroom.
